There was speculation about possible revival of ties between Congress and DMK; reportedly, Union health minister and Congress leader Ghulam Nazi Azad on Thursday called on DMK chief M Karunanidhi. However, denying that alliance issues figured in their talks, Azad reportedly said that any such alliance will only be decided in due time when election comes.
DMK had announced in December last year that the party will not have a tie-up with Congress for the Lok Sabha elections.
Making light of his 30-minute meeting with the DMK chief, Azad told reporters that he meets Karunanidhi, whenever he is visiting Chennai. He said he was visiting Chennai after six or seven months. Barring DMK treasurer M K Stalin, some senior leaders were present in the meeting, sources said. The minister apparently sought an appointment with Karunanidhi as he was passing though Chennai to take part in a function organized by the Vellore Institute of Technology on Friday.
