A man traveling to Dubai was arrested by Customs authorities at IGI airport in Delhi on Wednesday for carrying US $ 2,00,000 concealed in books and trousers. The accused had carved out cavities in the books to hide the money. According to customs sources, the said passenger, whose identity has not been revealed, was to depart for Dubai by flight No. 6E 23 on Wednesday.
The passenger was spotted in a routine surveillance exercise on the Dubai sector and he was intercepted while crossing the immigration counters. Customs sleuths then frisked him and searched his baggage. The examination of his checked in baggage found nothing amiss apart from three large volumes of books titled Mahaan Indrajal and GATE Tutor 2014.
When the books were opened sleuths found they had neatly cut out cavities in between the pages. A total of six bundles each containing US $ 10000 was found to have been concealed in the cavities in each book. A total of 18 bundles were recovered from the three books.
Two more bundles, each containing US $ 10,000 were also recovered from the pocket of a jeans trouser which was placed along with the books. Reportedly, a total of US $ 2,00,000 equivalent to INR 1,22,70,000/- were recovered and seized.
